SOUTHBROOM COMMUNITY POLICING
HARDEN THE TARGET
It’s that time
of year again and Southbroom Sector Police again remind
ratepayers and visitors to harden the target.
Please remember to lock your cottage properly and not to
leave anything tempting lying around.
Please also remember to set your alarm … especially after a
few frosties with friends on the patio |

SOUTHBROOM CONSERVANCY
Guided Walk
Port Edward Main Beach to the
Umtamvuna River and back, on a loop which is partly inland.
It is a very pretty, seldom walked area of our coastline and
well worth it. Those interested must be at Port Edward Main
Beach ready to leave at 7am. There is a cover charge of R10
which will go to conservation. A lucky draw will take place
and the winner will win a flip for 5 people in a small
aircraft along our coast from Hibberdene to Port Edward.
Farewell To Pearl McGregor
 |
It was with sadness that
the Conservancy Committee bid farewell to Pearl at their
last meeting. Pearl has worked tirelessly for the
Conservancy for many years. She has been involved in
many Conservancy endeavours amongst those being
Secretary, has planted and maintained a large section of
roadside garden at our South Entrance and has been the
Convenor of the very successful Conservancy Golf Day.
|
|
We will miss her
enthusiasm, willingness and support over all these
years. Pearl and Neville have recently moved to the
Village in Margate where we wish them lots of happiness.
We have heard they are settling in well.
|
Dassies
We would like to warn all
Southbroom residents about the problems dassies cause should
they decide to live in your roof. They appear to be such
loveable looking little creatures but can cause huge damage
to ceilings and homes if left unattended. If you see dassies
in the vicinity of your home, investigate further to see
that they are not already in your roof. It they are, call in
an expert to help you get rid of them before the damage is
too far gone.
Acacia About To Be Hijacked
There's an insignificant
penal colony near the bottom of the world that's rumoured to
play a bit of sport which, not content with its attempts to
denude our Wild Coast Xolobeni dunes of their vegetation and
minerals, is pressing a well-advanced plot to steal forever
our own Acacia genus. Visit Professor Braam van Wyk's
website http://www.acaciavote.com/
to voice your outrage.

alive and well!
>We
have introduced 30 brand new books into the library from
November '08 to November '09.
>We have had 2641 (203/month) people walking through the
library doors for the same period.
>Those people have taken out 6356 (489/month) books.
We want to say to all of our
regulars, please keep visiting us and making our work in the
library very rewarding and enjoyable. For all the holiday
makers, remember you are most welcome. We have modern and up
to date reading material. Come see for yourself. We don't
even need your marriage certificate to open membership!! You
pay nothing and you get to keep the books for as long as you
need to read them!
Auction & Raffle
The
well-known auctioneer, Gus Bonini, has been kind enough to
offer his services free of charge to the Southbroom Library
to auction off 10 paintings donated to the Library by the
highly talented local artist, Ann Harvey. The money
raised by the auction will be going towards the purchase of
new books. Please visit the Library and take a look at the
high quality of the paintings. The draw for the raffle will
take place after the auction. The raffle consists of an
enormous Christmas Hamper as 1st prize and 2 spectacular
paintings as 2nd and 3rd prizes. This
promises to be a very happy and fun occasion and please
bring everybody along to enjoy with us. You can see for
yourself what influence this little library has on the
community of Southbroom and how many people it gives
pleasure to during lonely hours.

Food
Gardens |
|
Even if your
domestic worker hasn’t asked you yet, please consider
granting permission for a few vegetables to be grown in your
garden.
At the domestic workers meeting, ladies raised this issue.
Some of them have tried to grow food plants but the ‘madam’
has ordered them removed!
With the current cost of living, every bit helps and
domestic workers can tend food plants easily whilst looking
after your home.
|
|
We would like to take this opportunity to
wish all Southbroom Ratepayers a very Merry Christmas and a
wonderful 2010 - Please drive safely through this holiday
season |
|
Once again a big thank you to everyone
who contributed to this Newsletter and, as always,
a special thank you to Sheena James for the photos& Annette
Brink for the Raffle photo. |
