OTHER BUSINESSES

In 1973 the late Captain Secretan, a retired British sea captain living in Southbroom, handed Byron Purtell a donation of 6500 pounds to cover the cost of building two courts.

The Southbroom Tennis Club opened in July 1974 and in 1976, through fundraising and a R500 grant-in-aid from the then health committee, a clubhouse was erected.

A third court was built in 1979 and, in 1990, night tennis became available following the installation of flood-lights.

The Southbroom Tennis Club is set in the tranquil surroundings of Eyles Park off Captain Smith's Drive.

Visitors are welcome to join members on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons.  Courts can be hired at any other time.  In season, make arrangements with the caretaker at the clubhouse.
